Telltale Shares First Details of 'Batman' Coming in Summer 2016

Telltale Games took to the stage during the SXSW Gaming Expo last week in Austin to share details of its upcoming "Batman" series for the very first time.

Although Telltale did not produce any visuals for the public to feast their eyes on, it did confirm several specific information that fans can expect from its version of "Batman." The company's iteration of the Caped Crusader will not be tied to any existing games, films, or comics. Telltale's "Batman" will be a "fresh interpretation" set in current times. The story will also focus equally on Bruce Wayne and Batman and will not delve deeply into the extended Bat-family like Robin, Nightwing, and others. However, a number of other characters will interact with Bruce/Batman including his butler Alfred Pennyworth, Vicki Vale, James Gordon, and Renee Montoya. Telltale will provide more information on the villains closer to the premiere.

Players will get to choose to play as Bruce or Batman, although they won't be able to play as just one character all the time. As for the plot, the script for episode one is done but the rest of the series is still being written. The game's writer is Pierre Shorette and its creative director is Nick Herman. The two have previously worked together on "Tales from the Borderlands" and "The Wolf Among Us."

"There are plenty of games out there that have explored what it is to feel like Batman, I think a Telltale series is going to give you an insight in what it's like to be Bruce day-to-day and see how that effects life as Batman," Shorette said of the upcoming series, as quoted by Eurogamer.

Telltale's "Batman" is expected to premiere this summer, though the company has not provided an exact date yet. What's certain though is that the game will have an M (Mature 17+) rating at launch. Visuals will come closer to launch as well.
