Tennessee Titans Quarterback Marcus Mariota Day-to-Day With Hamstring Injury
Tennessee Titans fans got a scare last Sunday when starting quarterback Marcus Mariota sustained a hamstring injury in the third quarter of their 57–14 lopsided loss to the Houston Texans, but it seemed to have avoided a more serious injury.
Mariota underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan on Monday to determine the extent of the injury, and during a press conference on the same day, Titans head coach Mike Mularkey confirmed that the injury wasn't serious and the second-year quarterback is considered day-to-day with a strained hamstring.
"(The MRI result) wasn't surprising. I say this about all these guys, with a variety of injuries. The hamstring, each guy is different. ... I am going to take it day by day with Marcus and make sure we are smart with him. We're not going to put him out there if he has any chance of doing further damage, we would not do that," Mularkey said, via the team's official website.
"He is a pretty fast healer, and we'll see where he is at and give you more information on Wednesday," he added.
There is certainly a possibility that Mariota may suit up for the Titans when they take on the Miami Dolphins this Sunday, but his status for the game won't be determined until later this week. In fact, they may wait until Sunday before determining his status.
If Mariota is unavailable, Matt Cassel should get the start for the Titans. The backup quarterback completed four of 10 passes for 21 yards after he came in to replace Mariota, and he had two interceptions as well.
Right now, Mariota and Cassel are the only quarterbacks on the active roster, but the Titans still have Tyler Ferguson on the practice squad.
Mularkey has also revealed that they have talked about the possibility of bringing in another quarterback.
