Tennessee Titans Rookie Wide Receiver Corey Davis Ruled Out for Game Against Texans

Maybe the Tennessee Titans shouldn't have rushed Corey Davis back too soon after he injured his hamstring early last month.

Titans head coach Mike Mularkey has confirmed that Davis is not going to be available when they take on the Houston Texans this Sunday. He also noted that the rookie wide receiver is "progressing very smart, doing everything we're asking him to do," but he's still not ready to play.

"They're different for everybody. It's an injury that's touchy. Anything can set it off. Again, we're just going to be smart with him this time. We've got a lot of football still to play," Mularkey said, via the Tennessean.

These types of injury can be tricky since they take time to completely heal. Such injury can linger for a long time if not taken care of properly.

The former Western Michigan standout did miss most of training camp and the entire preseason, but he was itching to play when the season began, so he suited up for the Titans in their season opener against the Oakland Raiders.

The fifth overall pick in this year's draft was impressive in his regular season debut in the National Football League (NFL). He hauled in six receptions for 69 yards, and his career was off to a great start. Unfortunately, he would aggravate the injury in their 37–16 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars and that forced him to miss their matchup against the Seattle Seahawks this past Sunday. Now he will have to miss his second straight game this season.

The Titans did fine without Davis when they took on the Seahawks, but they will have to go against one of the best defenses in the league when they face the Texans this Sunday.

Rishard Matthews and Eric Decker should continue to see an increase in workload while Davis is on the sidelines.
