Tennessee Titans Roster, Injury News 2017: Quarterback Marcus Mariota Could Play Against the Colts
Quarterback Marcus Mariota didn't suit up for the Tennessee Titans in last Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins due to a hamstring injury, but he may be available when they take on the Indianapolis Colts on Monday.
Mariota was a limited participant in two practice sessions this week and he has made a lot of progress in his recovery since he sustained the injury in the third quarter of their week four game against the Houston Texans on Oct.1.
The third-year quarterback is eager to make his return to the football field next week. However, Mariota still hasn't done a full sprint in practice and he will have to show improved mobility before Titans head coach Mike Mularkey will even consider putting him back on the field.
"I want to be very smart about how we do this. It is more than this game. It is a lot of games to be concerned about," Mularkey said after practice on Thursday, via the Titans' official website. "I'll have to see more than what I've seen to this point," he continued.
"He did more today. And I think it was positive, what he did. We'll just have to see how it feels in the morning after what he did today. But he did a little bit more than (Wednesday). ... He threw some balls, and did some more," he added.
Well, the Titans are playing it safe here because Mularkey may get hurt if his mobility is hindered.
If Mariota is ruled out for the game, Matt Cassel should continue to start in his place. The veteran quarterback didn't play very well last Sunday, but the Titans may have no choice but to turn to him.
Cassel was 21 of 32 for 141 yards in the game against the Dolphins. However, he was sacked six times.
