Tesla Semi Truck Release Date, Specs News: Reveal Confirmed for Nov. 16
Tesla will unveil its all-electric semi-truck on Thursday, Nov. 16. The heavy-duty vehicle was originally slated to debut in October, but the reveal was postponed due to the reallocation of company resources.
According to TechCrunch, Tesla confirmed the debut of the long-awaited semi-truck through invitations that were sent out to members of the press. The event slated for next week will be held at Jet Center Los Angeles in Hawthorne, California.
The Tesla semi-truck's reveal was initially set for October, but in a Twitter post, CEO Elon Musk explained that the event had to be postponed to Nov. 16. However, it wasn't because of any issue with the heavy-duty vehicle. The Tesla executive explained that the delay was due to Model 3 bottlenecks and increased production of batteries for Puerto Rico and other areas affected by the recent hurricanes.
"Semi specs are better than anything I've seen reported so far. Semi eng/design team work is aces, but other needs are greater right now," Musk further explained at the time.
Despite the official reveal being one week away, not much has been confirmed about the Tesla semi-truck. However, back in August, Reuters reported that the semi-truck would have an all-electric range of about 200 to 300 miles, which would allow Tesla to compete in the commercial freight market.
Upon its release, the Tesla semi-truck could potentially disrupt the industry as the long-haul truck proves to be more efficient than conventional diesel trucks — in terms of emissions and operating costs. The automaker is also said to be working on integrating self-driving technology which could overhaul the role of truck drivers while on the road.
However, the event next week will only showcase a prototype of the Tesla semi-truck. Large-scale production isn't expected until the next few years. At this time, Tesla's main priority seems to be still dealing with issues associated with the mass production of the Model 3.
