The once famous 'Tetris' video game is getting a big screen movie feature and will be filed under the sci-fi thriller category.

The movie version of the game is a result of the partnership between Chinese media bigwig Bruno Wu and Larry Kasanoff, who inked an agreement and formed the Threshold Global Studios. The studio will finance and produce cross-cultural films for the global market, according to Wu and Kasanoff.

As the studio's initial offering, it is dropping $80 million for the production of the movie of the mentioned video game, which was first announced in 2014. Wu and Kasanoff further said in a statement that they have been working on the "Tetris" movie for over a year now and, with the formation of Threshold Global Studios, the movie is now taking shape as funds for which has been secured and its story has been written.

Jimmy Lenner of Threshold is executive producer of "Tetris" along with Seven Stars. Dane Smith "Transformers," "Harrry Potter," and "Spiderman" will take the lead in applying the unique Tetris VFX especially created for the upcoming movie.

According to Kasanoff, who also produced "Mortal Kombat," "Tetris" is a perfect initial project for Threshold Studios as it is one of the most recognized video games of all times.

"For our debut project, Threshold Global Studios will bring one of the most beloved, cross-generational gaming brands in the world to the big screen," Kasanoff said.

While "Tetris" is a shared project between American and Chinese productions, it is not the first movie to be so. Last month, it was also announced that The Mark Gordon Company, The Koch Company, Pegasus Media Group, and China Film Group, were teaming up to produce the English-language feature of the 1930s "Edge of the World," which is an epic love story.

According to Jianjun "Jay" Sun, producer and president of Beijing-based Pegasus Media Group, co-production is the best thing that U.S. and Chinese filmmakers can do in order for them to take advantage of the growing Chinese movie market, which is expected to surpass that of the U.S. by 2017.
