'The Adventures of Supergirl' Comic Book News: Digital Comic Book Available on Hard Copy Starting Next Month
CBS's "Supergirl" series has just ended its first season run, and there is no official word from the network yet whether it's going to be renewed for another season. Although reports suggest that there is a very high possibility for the show to be renewed for a season two, given the popularity of the series and its performance in the ratings game, nothing is certain at this point in time. However, the good news is that, while the fans are awaiting the decision of CBS, they can still witness the adventures of the Girl of Steel via a comic book titled, "The Adventures of Supergirl," which will hit the shelves next month.
"The Adventures of Supergirl" started as a digital copy only. However, with the clamor of the fans and retailers that it be released physically, DC arrived at a decision of having the series printed in hardcopy. With this, the brains behind "The Adventures of Supergirl" cannot contain his excitement that comic book fans can now have something to add to their collection.
"I'm thrilled we're getting physical copies. That decision came out of fan support and retailer demand. It deviated our plans slightly, but for the most part, we knew we were always going to have a physical trade paperback. Now, having physical issues in stores, it's exciting. I love having physical copies of books," Sterling Gates said.
Gates confessed that he is a fan of the DC female superhero and one of his favorite fictional characters ever. For him, the Girl of Steel symbolizes a hopeful voice in a dark and cynical world.
The writer also revealed that writing "The Adventures of Supergirl," was quite a challenge as the DC female superhero only have a few known enemies that she battles. As much of the "Supergirl" series is based on the digital comic book stories that he writes, he had to do extensive works on developing characters that will be featured in the series.
"… When they announced that Reactron was going to be one of the villains of the first few episodes, I flipped out. We worked really hard to make Reactron a huge villain during New Krypton… and Reactron, no offense to Paul Kupperberg, was sort of a lesser-known villain in the Superman universe…," he said.
"The Adventures of Supergirl" releases twice-monthly beginning May.
Meanwhile, it is expected that the "Supergirl" series renewal will be announced at the Network Upfront event happening on May 18.
