'The Angry Birds' movie release date, plot news: The pigs arrive
There has been news on the upcoming "The Angry Birds" movie that revealed the plot for the upcoming film.
The trailer for the movie was released, featuring the vocal talents of Jason Sudeikis, Peter Dinklage, Maya Rudolph, Keegan-Michael Key, Josh Gad, Hannibal Buress, and Kate McKinnon. It showcased the songs of "Bad" by Michael Jackson and "Close to You" by The Carpenters. The upcoming film is expected to tickle the funny bone, taking place on an island inhabited by flightless birds.
It was reported that Sudeiki's character is named Red, a bird that has anger management issues, making him an outcast. He will be joined by his other friends, Chuck and Bomb. The three birds were featured in the video game. The birds are expected to encounter their enemies, the pigs. With that, the birds will try to find out what the pigs are doing on the island.
It was reported that Josh Gad had initially turned down the offer for the movie. He said, "In fact, when I was approached about it, I actually said no, for many reasons, the most significant of which was I did Olaf [in Frozen] and I don't want to play another animated character, especially right now." However, he said that the director was able to show him the pitch for the movie. After seeing the plans for the movie, Gad had changed his mind. He added, "The producer was like 'Just let me kind of pitch out this movie to you' and did this reel for me of what he was thinking about… It was this 30-minute visual pitch and it blew my socks off."
"Angry Birds," the game, was released more than five years ago by Rovio Entertainment. It boasts 3 billion downloads since its release, and has released several merchandise products. The film will be led by clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly, who were involved in other animated films such as "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," and "Frozen." "The Angry Birds" movie will premiere on May 20, 2016.
