'The Angry Birds Movie' plot news: Why are the birds so angry?

More details about the plot of "The Angry Birds Movie" have been revealed.

Rovio Entertainment will be partnering up with Sony Pictures for the upcoming film. According to Entertainment Weekly, producer John Cohen explained that the film will serve as an origin story. He shared, "The question Rovio gets more than anything is 'Why are these birds so angry?' This is the origin story for how that conflict came to exist between birds and little green piggies."

Voice actors of the film include Jason Sudeikis, who will be playing the role of Red. Director Clay Kaytis shared details about the character. He said that he is a curmudgeon, which made it hard to find an actor who could pull of the script with still a charming personality. Other characters such as Chuck, played by Josh Gad, and Bomb, played by Danny McBride, will also be featured in the film. Co-director, Fergal Reilly, also mentioned that they will have to animate the icons that are involved in the game. With that, they sought out several comedians in order to push the characters forward. Maya Rudolph, Hannibal Buress, Kate McKinnon, Keegan-Michael Key, Tony Hale, and Peter Dinklage will be taking part in the film. Reilly said, "These are icons in a game that appear to be characters, but really they're just icons. So it's up to us to flesh them out."

The script was written by Jon Vitti, who has been involved in projects such as "The Simpsons" movie, as well as the two "Alvin and the Chipmunks" films. With that, Reilly mentioned that they will have a challenge since the movie will come from a branded entertainment. He said, "A lot of iconic movies come from branded entertainment. But you have to quickly forget about that when you're working on the movie because you still have to, you know, make a movie."

The Angry Birds Movie will premiere in theaters next year May 20.
