'The Avengers: Infinity War' News: Two-Part Film To Bring In 67 Characters Of The Marvel Universe

Marvel Studios is already in the thick of planning what they call Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which starts immediately after the movie "Ant-Man," which was considered to be the last of the Phase 2 movies. Phase 3 will start with "Captain America: Civil War" and will build towards the climax, ending with the two-part movie "Avengers: Infinity War."

According to an IGN report, these big plans include the appearance of 67 characters who are said to be part of the Marvel Universe. This revelation was made by one of the movie's co-directors, Joe Russo, in an interview with ComicBook.com. He also revealed the concept behind the movie which will be done in two parts. All of the Marvel universe will be involved in the final fight against "the greatest threat to the world and universe."

The Russo brothers, who are helming the movie, also earlier hinted at the number of characters that would be appearing. They however did not say if characters from the other popular Marvel franchise "Guardians of the Galaxy" will be showing up as well. During the Wizarding World New Orleans, they said that they are dealing with a "massive cast" because of the number of characters included in the movie.

The other piece of exciting news brought by the directing pair is their promise to introduce unknown Marvel characters from the universe's lesser known cosmic side as well as make use of what they called "psychological realism." This is already slated to happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the upcoming "Doctor Strange," a character who wields more magical and cosmic powers rather than the usual superpowers.

According to the film's executive producer Jeremy Latcham, "Avengers: Infinity War" will also see the end of the original members of the Avengers. In an earlier IGN report, he said, "I think it definitely is an end to some version of the team that we've come to know as the Avengers," Latcham said. "Who knows exactly what's going to happen yet in that film, but I think this version of that team -- and I think we start to hint at that at the end of Age of Ultron -- the team will be evolving."

"The Avenger: Infinity War" Part 1 will bow in theaters on May 4, 2018, following the release of "Black Panther." Part 2 will be shown in theaters a year later, on May 3, 2019.
