'The Bachelorette' Season 13 Latest News: Rachel Lindsay's Quest for Love Premieres on May 22

ABC reality show "The Bachelorette" is nearing its premiere as season 21 of "The Bachelor" is coming to an end.

It is already confirmed that season 13 of "The Bachelorette" will feature Rachel Lindsay, the first African-American woman to star in the reality show in over a combined 33 seasons for the franchise.

The announcement was made during an episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live," which was in line with creator Mike Fleiss' cryptic tweets about an impending historic announcement.

Lindsay is actually a top contender for the heart of current bachelor, Nick Viall, in season 21 of "The Bachelor," but fans already know that the game is now between Raven Gates and Vanessa Grimaldi. This is the first time, however, that the franchise has announced a series lead even before a contestant's elimination.

During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, the 31-year-old attorney expressed her surprise when she was eventually eliminated in the show. "He let me go. I was shocked, too," she said, adding that she thought she and Viall had a special connection, but it seems like the bachelor was "looking for something else."

Lindsay admitted that she was heartbroken at the time but was able to move on, especially now that she could have her choice among a group of eligible men.

"We're a couple of weeks out from filming, we're ready to get this started. I'm ready to find love, find a husband," she said on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

When she was asked what she was looking for when it comes to men, Lindsay only said that she does not exactly have a type, but she would love someone who could make her laugh, and a man who is goal-driven and ambitious but is also ready to settle down and start a family.

Season 13 of "The Bachelorette" will premiere on May 22, 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
