'The Banner Saga' Release Date for PS4 & Xbox One Announced

Good news for all those who have been waiting for the console version of "The Banner Saga." The Viking-themed tactical role-playing video game finally has a release date for the PS4 and Xbox One platforms. According to a report by Tech Times, the game will be available to download via the consoles on Jan. 12.

Developer Stoic Studio has already released the game for Android, iOS, OS X, Linux and Windows in January 2014. Apparently, the company took two years to get the game on the PlayStation and Xbox platforms. International Business Times detailed that porting the PC game to the consoles was a lot of work for Stoic. They have already spent so much time working on it and the developers hadn't expected the development process to take that long. They even had to do some modifications to the game so that it would function on console controllers. A computer keyboard is far different from a PS4 of Xbox One controller so one can only imagine the difficulties they encountered.

The source also mentioned that a Vita version was originally planned to be released alongside the one coming for consoles. However, that plan had to be delayed due to the complexities the development team had with the console version. It will take more time for the game to run well on a handheld.

But despite the challenges along the way, the game is now gearing up for release. According to the Tech Times report, John Watson, founder and technical director of Stoic said, "We have managed to merge the story and gameplay from 'Banner Saga' with a refined controller interface to make it a very enjoyable console gaming experience."

PlayStation Blog also noted that the game will be available in several languages in order to enhance the gaming experience for gamers in localized areas. Languages included are French, German, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Italian.
