'The Bastard Executioner' Season 1 Recap, Spoilers: Lady Love Journeys to Windsor
Things are definitely getting more intense as the first season of Kurt Sutter's newest historical fiction drama TV series "The Bastard Executioner" continues this week with an episode that will see Lady Love's political will getting tested.
Citing the spoiler reports from International Business Times, the episode titled "A Hunger/Newyn" will find the people of Ventrishire facing hunger and possibly famine as their food supplies slowly get depleted. The shire, which was once governed by the iron hand of the late Ventris (Brian O'Bryne), is currently undergoing a transition of governance after the latter's wife, Baroness Lowry "Lady Love" (Flora Spencer-Longhurst) took over the seat.
The previous episode clearly showed the difference between the couple. While the cruel Baron would often resort to using the sword in dealing with matters, the wife chose the gentler way of dealing with political issues especially that of the Welsh uprising.
It was further revealed in Episode 3 when a young girl was captured by the army. Milus (Stephen Moyer) advised the widow to have the rebel's head cut off. This, he rationalizes, would send a blatant message to the rebels not to mess with the authority.
The Baroness ignored Milus' words and instead rounded up a few armed forces as they travel to the north fishing village where the girl comes from. She spoke with the mother and offered a trade of her daughter's life for a moment with the Wolf, the leader of the rebels.
Oblivious to her true intentions, the mother denied the request. Down the road, they were met with the rebel forces. Fortunately, Wilkin and the rest of the soldiers managed to quell the ambush.
She ended up commanding the Executioner to instead cut off the girl's nose instead of her head.
Despite this act of mercy, things still won't do well with the Baroness as what the synopsis from The Futon Critic had hinted. The Baroness will have an appointment with the King at Windsor and it looks like the shire's relationship with Edward II is strained thanks to Lady Love's mercy to the traitors – a thing that the English don't want to happen.
Will she change her ways in order to gain the favour of the crown? Find out when "The Bastard Executioner" airs this Tuesday, September 29, at 10 p.m. on FX.
