'The Batman' Movie News, Release Date: Ben Affleck's Original Script Inspired by David Fincher's 1997 Mystery Thriller 'The Game'
As previously reported, a new "Batman" movie helmed by Matt Reeves is currently in the works. Although details about the next movie are still kept under wraps, a new social media post by entertainment insider Umberto Gonzalez revealed that David Fincher's "The Game" had a lot to do with the original script written by Ben Affleck for the film.
Several days ago, Gonzalez took to Twitter to reveal that the story initially crafted by Affleck for the upcoming movie was inspired by Fincher's mystery thriller. "THE GAME also was the inspiration for the previous THE BATMAN script before Matt Reeves started over," he tweeted. The same tweet was later on "liked" by one of "The Batman's" stars, Joe Manganiello.
Affleck was originally the one expected to sit in the film's directorial chair, but following a shakeup in the production, Matt Reeves was brought in to write and direct the film. Although Affleck's script was scrapped, Gonzalez's recent tweet gave fans an idea about what the upcoming movie could have been like. Considering that the script was inspired by the mystery thriller, there are speculations that his version of "The Batman" could have been very detective-focused.

In 1997, the movie "The Game" was released as an American mystery thriller that included Michael Douglas and Sean Penn. It was directed by Fincher. The film followed the life of an opulent investment banker who was given the chance to be part of a game. As the banker realized the thinning of the line that separates his real life from the game, he came to discover a huge conspiracy and decides to take matters into his own hands.
Reeves' "The Batman" movie does not have a release date yet, but it is expected to arrive sometime in 2019. Aside from Affleck and Manganiello, it is also set to star Jeremy Irons and J.K. Simmons.
