'The Batman' Movie Release Date News: Production Kicks Off in 2018

After hitting snags in its production, "The Batman" movie finally has a tentative production start date. It can be recalled that previously, the movie had to undergo major revisions with its staff as Ben Affleck walked away from his directorial duties and Matt Reeves stepped in to take his place.

This week, Variety reporter and DC Comics insider Justin Kroll shared on Twitter some interesting updates on "The Batman." According to Kroll, Reeves will be working on the "War for the Planet of the Apes" movie until the end of June, so production on "The Batman" won't start until 2018.

"Hearing Matt Reeves contracted to work on APES till at least end of June, so production on BATMAN likely not starting till 2018," tweeted Kroll. "Also means any casting rumors you hear are likely BS seeing that he wouldn't have time to meet with any talent till at least July," he added.

Kroll was not the first one to give recent updates on the film. Earlier this March, actor Joe Manganiello, who is set to play Deathstroke in the movie, said in an interview that he was confident about the progress of the superhero flick.

The actor said the film creators have big plans for the movie and whether or not production starts in June, it does not matter. "Here's the thing: The creative process needs to be respected and no one involved in this film wants to make anything less than an unbelievable film, a legendary film," he said.

According to Manganiello, everyone involved in the project wants to make "The Batman" the best film possible so they will start shooting when the pieces are finally in place. "No one wants to create that superhero movie that's polarizing to fans and critics. Rest assured, we're gonna do this thing right," he said.

"The Batman" is expected to hit theaters on June 14, 2019.
