'The Batman' Release Date, News: Matt Reeves Tapped to Direct 'The Batman'
When Ben Affleck gave up the director's chair late last month, Warner Bros. had to scramble to find a suitable replacement to helm "The Batman." Many people believed that it would take months to look for the right person to helm the project, but it seems that they have already found the man for the job.
The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Matt Reeves was in early talks to direct the film. This shouldn't come as a surprise since he was reportedly the frontrunner for the job. Reeves has a lot of experience on his resume and he has directed box-office hits like "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," "Let Me In" and "Cloverfield." He also directed the upcoming film "War for the Planet of the Apes."
Affleck will continue to produce, co-write and star in "The Batman," and he will also appear in "Justice League." Last month, he decided to step down as director because he wanted to focus on portraying his character.
"Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world." He said in a statement, according to Variety.
When Warner Bros. launched the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), they were hoping to create a shared cinematic universe that could rival Marvel's. The films did well at the box office, however, critics have continued to rip the DCEU to shreds. Can "The Batman" do better with Reeves helming it?
