'The Batman' Release Date News: Warner Bros. Eyes Summer Production Start

For the last couple of months, Matt Reeves' "The Batman" has made headlines due to troubles in its production. Now, it looks like the movie is all-set to make progress, as a new report suggests that it will finally kick off production next summer.

Although "The Batman" previously seemed to be one of those Warner Bros. movies whose future was bleak, the fact that it is likely to start production next summer suggests that it is not in limbo, unlike other films that got lost in the shuffle after being announced.

News about "The Batman" kicking off production soon was revealed by "The Wrap's" Umberto Gonzalez, who gave some updates about several upcoming Warner Bros. films during a new "Periscope" session. Although he did not straightforwardly confirm that the summer production start was already set in stone, he revealed that was the plan for the film which could push through "if everything falls into place."

Right now, the "War for the Planet of the Apes" director is already working on Batman's solo movie. It can be recalled that after Ben Affleck stepped down as the director and writer of the upcoming film, Reeves was tapped to direct but opted not to use Affleck's script as he preferred to have his own version of the caped crusader's story.

For the past months, many thought that "The Batman" would no longer see the light of the day, especially after Affleck announced his decision to step away from the directorial chair. With Reeves now making changes to the entire narrative, it is understandable that the preparation and production for it is taking a while. However, fans can take comfort in the fact that Warner Bros. is eyeing a summer production start for the film—a sign that after all is said and done, the project is still making some headway.

"The Batman" does not have a release date yet so fans should stay tuned for more updates.
