'The Big Bang Theory' season 9 news, cast, spoilers: Leonard and Penny are officially married
Nine seasons in and it seems that "The Big Bang Theory" is still going strong. In the finale of season 8, viewers saw how the relationships of Penny and Leonard might have come at a minor bump on the road, while Sheldon and Amy may be on the rocks. However, it seems the big event coming at the beginning of season 9 will focus more on Penny and Leonard.
Before the minor disagreement they've had, Penny and Leonard were starting to settle into the details of getting married. Although it does seem alarming that there is hesitation in Penny, it seems like supporters of the couple should not need to worry as the ninth season of the successful show will begin in Las Vegas for the couple's big day.
Executive producer Steve Molaro tells Entertainment Weekly about what came into making the decision. He says, "The show is moving forward in big brave ways and so are Leonard and Penny." He also talks more about the development of Penny's character saying that she believes that the current strain on her relationship with Leonard is something they will get past together. Molaro adds, "She knows they've been together a long time. She's telling herself, 'It was years ago and we weren't married and it was only making out. I can get past this. Let's keep moving forward.'"

Johnny Galecki, who plays Leonard, opens up about the big step his character took with Penny. He explained, "I think they were ready to take the plunge at that point. Enough talk let's do this, and I think the audience was ready for that too." Apparently their co-cast members were the ones who weren't ready, as Mayim Bialik, who plays Amy said, "I didn't know anything about Leonard and Penny getting married and I thought for sure something would be derailed between season 8 and season 9 and low and behold they went and got married. I kept waiting to find out that they weren't going to but they went ahead and did it."
It seems that whatever problems Penny and Leonard will be facing, they will be doing it as a married couple, and things can get more intense once the marital bliss tones down for both of them.
Season 9 of The Big Bang Theory will premiere on Sept. 21, Monday, 8 p.m. ET/PT and will move airing time to its regular time slot of Thursdays 8 p.m./PT after Nov. 5.
