'The Blacklist: Redemption' Season 1 Spoilers: Tom Discovers His Father Is Alive, Joins Covert Group of Criminals
The recent promo for "The Blacklist: Redemption" offers clues as to why Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) joined Susan Scottie Hargrave (Famke Janssen) in the original series. As previously reported, "Redemption" will focus on Tom and will explore his reasons for enlisting himself in an enemy organization.
The clip reveals that Howard Hargrave (Terry O'Quinn), who was presumed to be dead in the original series after being caught in a plane crash, is actually alive. In the spinoff series, his mother will ask Tom to join the private organization she is running so he can get close to her. This covert organization is composed of the most elusive criminals from the infamous blacklist. As he joins the group, he will discover important details about his life, particularly about his family.
According to International Business Times, the upcoming spinoff will feature the most elite criminals from Red's (James Spader) list as they get together to form a team of their own. Red will not be seen on the show since the series will center on the narrative of undercover Tom and his mother, the brilliant Hargrave. The series will also feature Edi Gathegi as Matias Solomon, as well as actors Tawny Cypress and Adrian Martinez, whose roles are still under wraps.

Previous reports pointed out that the eight episodes of "Redemption" will shed light on the dark areas of the original series and will feature more action-packed scenes. The executives of the show also hinted that the spinoff will have its own story to tell so fans should not expect it to be like the original series.
"Although he wants to sort of forget about his origins, and wants just his present family to be all that matters, there is something drawing him back. This story, the history of his father and the company that his father owned, has opened up new questions about who he is, where he came from.... All of those come to a head and pull him away," executive producer Jon Bokenkamp told TV Guide.
"The Black List: Redemption" premieres on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
