'The Blacklist' Season 3 Spoilers, Plot News: Upcoming Season to Be 'Bleaker'

The crime drama TV series on NBC "The Blacklist" is set to premiere its third season on Sept. 24, 2015. Even before the start of the series, several reports have come out predicting what can be expected in the coming season, based on how Season 2 ended (spoiler alert for Season 2 finale).

According to a report in Master Herald, Season 3 will be much darker and "bleaker" than the previous seasons, primarily due to the fact that one of the lead characters, FBI profiler Elizabeth "Liz" Keen has left the confines of the FBI and has become a fugitive on the run.

In the previous season, Keen, who is played by actress Megan Boone, was seen during the season finale disappearing with FBI confidential informant and former US Navy Officer Raymond "Red" Reddington. The character is being played by actor James Spader. The two were working closely together to bring to justice criminals who are part of Red's "blacklist," based on a list he had compiled.

The report also cited that Boone had earlier revealed in an interview about the upcoming season that it will be "a different show and a different dynamic."

A first episode synopsis was also mentioned in the report, which said that the title of the episode will be "The Troll Farmer." The first episode introduces a CIA analyst who goes undercover to go after an arms dealer, which according to the report is "timely" given that the show is without a clear "good guy" at the start of the season.

The role of Liz at the start of Season 3 is naturally different given that she is now part of the Bureau's Most Wanted. Boone said that this "shake-up" will make for a good show.

As far as showrunner Jon Bonkenkamp is concerned, the upcoming season will have Liz and Red "take fans to a real journey that they have to go through to make the truth comes out in the end." Fans will see a different Liz, one who is tougher, "more jaded and careful."
