'The Blacklist' season 3 promises to be different, Mr. Solomon as new villain
'The Blacklist' season 3 is officially premiering on Oct. 1 and the show is promising something to its audience - it will be different. When the show returns, viewers will see a much darker season especially since Elizabeth "Liz" Keen, played by Megan Boone, and Raymond 'Red' Reddington, played by James Spader, are now running for their lives.
According to Gospel Herald, Boone spoke in an interview in May confirming that the viewers will be seeing something different with the upcoming season. "Season 3 is going to be the same characters but a different show, a very different topic," said Boone, "Because now, Liz Keen is no longer working within the law.''
Liz is now FBI's most wanted which is a complete turnaround from her role since she worked as an FBI profiler from the previous seasons. In Movie Plot's season recap, it listed some events that took place and are now hints of what the viewers should expect for the upcoming season.
The source stated that Liz was framed by the Cabal for the murder of Senator Hawkins. She then became a fugitive after shooting and killing Tom Connolly, which made some dark memories come back to her. It was the memory of killing her father to defend her mother, Katarina Rostova, a Russian spy. It was also mentioned that she may still be alive and will appear in the third season to unfold some stories and revelations.
Now that Connolly is dead, Entertainment Weekly reported that there will be a new villain on the loose and he's not someone new to the show. "X-Men: First Class" star Edi Gathegi is said to reprise his role as Mr. Solomon, the man who is essentially in charge of the dirty work for the Cabal. He is known to be soft-spoken and amiable on the surface but is really scary and violent on the inside—a perfect description of a "monster in gentleman's clothing."
