'The Bold Type' Season 2 News: Freeform Renews Series Through Season 3

Fans of "The Bold Type" can breathe a sigh of relief, as Freeform has officially renewed the series for two more seasons.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has renewed "The Bold Type" through seasons 2 and 3, consisting of 20 episodes in total. However, it is not all good news. It was also revealed that series creator Sarah Watson will not be returning as showrunner due to creative differences with Freeform. Replacing her is Amanda Lasher, who is known for "Sweet/Vicious."

"At Freeform, we are committed to delivering shows that celebrate the power and possibility of the female voice," said Freeform's executive vice president of programming and development Karey Burke. "Season one of 'The Bold Type' brought culturally significant stories to the masses that not only entertain, but also empower our viewers to conquer the world — we are excited to continue to champion these incredible women."

The debut season of "The Bold Type" concluded in September, leaving a lot of questions left unanswered. Watson previously spoke to TVLine about what is in store for the characters come season 2, though it remains to be seen if any of these plans will change since she is no longer the showrunner.

Season 1 ended with the girls scattered and not working in the same office, but Watson revealed that this does not mean they will no longer be friends.

"We've seen these girls be best friends because they work together, and it'll be interesting to see what happens when we see them be best friends on a different plane and a different level," she previewed.

However, there may still be hope that Kat (Aisha Dee) will return to Scarlet magazine. It was not made totally clear whether Kat quit her job or if she just went on a spontaneous vacation. Watson teased that this will be answered in season 2.

As for their romantic relationships, Watson said that Sutton (Meghann Fahy) and Richard (Sam Page) may have a future, while Jane (Katie Stevens) and Ryan (Dan Jeannotte) could work things out. She also expressed a desire to explore the male characters on the show.

"The Bold Type" season 2 does not have a premiere date yet.
