'The Child in Time' News, Air Date: BBC Releases Official Trailer for Drama Starring Benedict Cumberbatch
BBC has released the official trailer for "The Child in Time" starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Kelly Macdonald.
The trailer began with Stephen Lewis (Cumberbatch), a children's book author, walking down the street with his daughter, Kate. They headed to the supermarket, where the father-daughter duo played with the shopping cart. However, while paying at the counter, Stephen turned his head away from his daughter. And when he looked back, he discovered she was missing.
He then shouted her name frantically at the supermarket, but it was clear that she was nowhere to be found. He told his wife, Julie (Macdonald), about the incident and their relationship crumbled.

The television film is set two years after Kate went missing. Julie has left Stephen, who has not yet come to terms with his daughter's disappearance. His best friends Charles (Stephen Campbell Moore) and Thelma (Saskia Reeves), a junior Minister in the Cabinet and a quantum physicist, respectively, no longer live near him.
"The Child in Time" is based on the novel of the same name written by Ian McEwan. It deals with the fluidity of time, the emotional effects of losing a child and acceptance. Stephen Butchard wrote the screenplay and it is directed by Julian Farino.
As the trailer teased, the film is full of "pure drama" and answers the question if time can really heal emotional wounds. Viewers had better get their tissue boxes ready and nearby when the film premieres, as it looks to be a real tearjerker.
The film adaptation is scheduled to premiere on BBC One on Sept. 24. Meanwhile, fans of Cumberbatch can also catch him on "Thor: Ragnarok" and "The Current War." In "Thor: Ragnarok," he reprises his role as Doctor Strange, though it is unknown how much screen time he will get. In "The Current War," he plays Thomas Edison battling against George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) for control of the electricity in the United States. Both films arrive in November.
Aside from BBC One, "The Child in Time" will also premiere on Masterpiece on PBS in 2018.
