'The Crown' Season 2: Prince Philip's Past To Be Explored

Production for the second season of Netflix's "The Crown" is already underway. And if there is any truth to it, the first photo from the set may have just been shared online.

According to Town & Country, the photo was published on Reddit by user AdamKane. It features people in period garb standing on the street, with some of them carrying flags of the United Kingdom. According to the poster, they were filming a scene that involved Princess Margaret (Vanessa Kirby) heading to Buckingham Palace in a car. The extras are there to wave to the Princess.

It remains to be seen if the photo is authentic, although it does seem likely that it is. However, readers should take this with a grain of salt.

"The Crown" season 2 is going to cover events from 1956 to 1964, picking up from where the first season left off. And while season 1 focused heavily on Claire Foy's Queen Elizabeth, creator Peter Morgan has said that season 2 will explore the story of Matt Smith's Prince Philip more.

"I find him extraordinarily interesting—his childhood, again, you couldn't make it up," Morgan said at the Royal Television Society's event earlier this month (via Elle). "The soul of season two is about his complexity."

And while he refused to reveal whether season 2 will also depict Prince Philip's many alleged affairs, Morgan did hint at it. The affairs were never confirmed, but rumors say that Queen Elizabeth's husband had relations with women like British actress Pat Kirkwood and television personality Katie Boyle.

As for a third season, Morgan said that he is pouring all of his attention on season 2 first, but that does not mean that he has not considered going beyond that. However, should they decide to take the story further than 1964, then it is likely that recasts will have to be made since Foy and Smith are too young.

"The Crown" season 2 is expected to arrive late this year, although Netflix has yet to announce a release date.
