'The Crown' Season 3 Cast News: Claire Foy Reveals Her Replacement Has Been Cast
Claire Foy has done a terrific job portraying a young Queen Elizabeth II, but fans will have to say goodbye to her after season 2 of "The Crown."
Fans already know by now that season 3 will cast new actors to play older versions of both Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip, the latter of whom is being portrayed by Matt Smith. The rest of the world is still in the dark about who has been cast to replace Foy, but the English actress is already in the know.
"I know who's doing it and I'm not telling you ... It's really exciting and great and amazing!" Foy said at the BFI London Film Festival.
While fans will be sad to see her go, Foy is just happy she was given the opportunity to bring life to the political figure.
"I'm just very, very grateful that I have had such a wonderful time playing that part and made friends for life, and just had the best time ever," she said. "So I'm very, very grateful and amazed that I can go and do other stuff, hopefully."
As previously reported, the upcoming season of the Netflix original series will explore the problems in Elizabeth and Phillip's marriage. Rumors of extramarital affairs have long plagued Prince Phillip. And while these have never been confirmed, it seems that "The Crown" will be addressing the subject nonetheless.
It has also been revealed that season 2 will shed some light on the Windsors' association with Adolf Hitler during the Nazi era. Robert Lacey, the author of the show's companion book, teased as much at the Cheltenham Literature Festival.
"Well just to tell you, season two starts in December and there is a whole episode addressing this question of Hitler and the Windsors and all these subtle points," he said.
"The Crown" season 2 will be released on Dec. 8 on Netflix.
