'The Defenders' Season 1 Spoilers: First Few Episodes' Filming Underway; Sigourney Weaver as Alexandra
It's been a few weeks since the Netflix crossover series, "The Defenders," gave fans a tantalizing first look at the four heroes in their new group. The middle of January saw the filming of the first scenes for the much-awaited superhero team-up.
Charlie Cox as "Daredevil" Matt Murdock meets up with Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Finn Jones as the newcomer Iron Fist. Slashfilm has a few publicity photos, courtesy of Marvel, that give the fans a peek at the first scenes of the series.
Entertainment Weekly ran a comprehensive coverage of "The Defenders," giving each of the four heroes a background through in-depth interviews with the stars. The report also outlined how the previous series of "Daredevil," "Jessica Jones" and "Luke Cage" tie in with this superhero mashup.
Charlie Cox related how his character Matt Murdock dealt with hardships after the events of the second season of "Daredevil." The death of Elektra has left Murdock reeling and unsure of his reasons for doing the vigilante work that led to his current situation. He has withdrawn from his role and will start this new series conflicted, once again, between his roles as lawyer and the Daredevil.
After the events with Kilgrave, Jessica Jones finds herself catapulted to superhero stardom — or something similar to that. She's not sure what she should do or what to expect, and Jones will find herself forced to grow into her new role and fast.
The end of "Luke Cage" season 1 saw the superhero brought behind bars. Whether he will make it out soon is something for the show to reveal at its own pace. The key thing is Luke was able to come to terms with the past and is ready to go toward a better direction.
Newest member, Iron Fist, completes the group as the exuberant, if somewhat reckless, member. He and Luke Cage have been a long-running team-up in the comics, so it just makes sense that the show tries to bring some of that interaction and chemistry to the screen.
Meanwhile, Sigourney Weaver's real role is still tightly kept under wraps. As of this time, all that's known is her role as Alexandra, who has been described as "sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous" by producer Marco Ramirez. That and the fact that her real intentions are what will drive "The Defenders" together, however reluctant they might be at first.
