'The Disaster Artist' News, Release Date: New Trailer Questions Tommy Wiseau's Origins, Wealth

A24 has released a new trailer for the highly anticipated film "The Disaster Artist."

Starring the Franco brothers, the trailer opens with Greg (Dave Franco) returning to his seat during an acting class, visibly disappointed in himself. The teacher asks for a volunteer who "can really reveal themselves to the class," and Tommy (James Franco) raises his hand.

The trailer goes into the mystery behind Tommy Wiseau, the Polish-American actor and filmmaker who made the cult movie "The Room." It poses questions about where he came from and how he was able to afford making an entire movie. It also previews how Tommy met Greg and became friends. It is revealed that Tommy arrived in Hollywood in 1998 and that "no one knew anything about him." His age is also a mystery, as Greg's mother (Megan Mullally) asks him how old he really is.

Also in the trailer is Tommy auditioning for a role quite terribly. Tommy is told by a casting director during what looks to be an audition that his "malevolent presence" makes him "a perfect villain." However, Tommy insists that he is hero material. He is then asked if he has an accent, but he denies having one.

The next scene then features Tommy greeting a cheering crowd at a movie theater, presumably during the premiere or a rerun of his movie, "The Room." "This is my movie and this is my life," Tommy tells the audience.

Above everything else, though, the movie is mainly about Tommy's friendship with Greg and going after one's dreams despite all the hardships and roadblocks along the way. The trailer goes on to show Tommy telling Greg that they share a similar dream.

The trailer also previews Tommy's frustration while making "The Room," saying the cast and crew do not appreciate his vision. "I give them job, I give them salary, I already spend five million dollar on this movie, Greg!" he exclaims. "And they are not grateful!"

Greg, of course, is shocked at the budget of the film. He proceeds to question Tommy about his origins and where he gets all his money.

"The Disaster Artist" will premiere in select U.S. theaters on Dec. 1 before a nationwide release on Dec. 8.
