'The Division' DLC News: PS4 And PC Owners Need To Wait; Xbox One Owners Get DLC One Month Ahead

Ubisoft, in recent news, said that Xbox One owners of the game "The Division" will be the first to get a hold of the game's first DLC, while those on other platforms will need to wait one month before they can get the DLC. According to a report in Forbes, the announcement came courtesy of a GameStop ad which said that Xbox will be privileged to "get new content first" on their platforms.

The delay amounts to a month or 30 days to be exact. While it is not yet clear if this will apply to all three expansions, the report speculated that this may well be the case for all the expansions.

This distribution model is likened to that of "Call of Duty" which also had a similar delay for non-Xbox owners the first times they released map packs. But this later on shifted favor for the PS4 when Sony took over the franchise, according to the Forbes report.

While this may be good news for one section of the "The Division" community, it will not go down easy on gamers who are playing on other platforms such as PS4 and PC. The report labelled the move as divisive and will "fracture discussion about the game in a way that is horrible for keeping a cohesive community together." With games these days putting so much value in community feedback, alienating a bigger section of one's community will be bad for business.

The game will be arriving for all three platforms on March 8. The schedule for post-launch DLC releases has not been revealed yet. The game's season pass is said to include three expansions and free monthly updates, according to another report in Polygon.

In 2014, Ubisoft initially revealed that they were working with Microsoft to make this a timed exclusive. As the game's release date approaches, consumers see that it is more than that, with the release of an Xbox One 1 TB bundle and a beta test which arrived on the Xbox One earlier than the other platforms.
