'The Expanse' Season 2 Renewed or Canceled? Show Confirmed for Second Season, 13 Episodes Ordered
Followers of TV series "The Expanse" can now have a reason to celebrate as the show is going to run for another round. According to Variety, Syfy has given the American space opera science fiction drama series a second season. The episodes ordered also increased. From 10 episodes, the sophomore run of the show will have 13 episodes.
Deadline noted that the show was renewed after it aired four episodes. It doesn't come as a surprise though since the show gained a good response from its viewers. In fact, the Alcon Television group series had 4.5 million viewers upon its online coming out in November. It was made available on VOD, TV Everywhere and other digital platforms.
The show then officially premiered on Dec. 14 and the first three episodes drew in an average 1.6 million P2+ linear viewers (L3).
"'The Expanse' is firing on all cylinders creatively, building a passionate fan base among viewers and critics alike, and delivering on Syfy's promise of smart, provocative science fiction entertainment. We can't wait to see where the story takes us in season two," said Dave Howe, president of Syfy and Chiller.
The show, which is based on the novels by James S.A. Corey, tells about the story of police detective Josephus Miller (Thomas Jane) and rogue ship captain James Holden (Steven Strait). The time setting is 200 years in the future and Miller was sent to locate a missing young woman named Julie Mao (Florence Faivre).
He journeys along with Holden across the solar system with one mission in mind. What they do not expect though is that they will discover the "greatest conspiracy in human history." The show also stars Shohreh Aghdashloo, Dominique Tipper, Cas Anvar and Wes Chatham, as noted in Cosmic Booknews.
Written by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, the show is also executive produced by them along with Naren Shankar from "CSI." It's noted that the series is considered to be Syfy's most high-priced series to date.
"The Expanse" season 2 is slated to premiere sometime in 2017.
