'The Fate of the Furious' Release Date, News: Film Rumored to Get 160 Minutes Runtime
The "Fast & Furious" franchise is set to return this year with "The Fate of the Furious," starring Vin Diesel. While details about the upcoming film remain scarce, rumors are swirling that the brand new installment will adopt a lengthy runtime.
Expectations for the eighth film are high, considering the sweeping success of the first seven installments. Since the next installment has a lot to cover, it won't come as a surprise to fans if it gets an extended runtime. In fact, recent reports suggest that "The Fate of the Furious" will take almost three hours.
Following a report from Cinemarx, IMDB reportedly updated its specifications for the upcoming film and noted that the movie will have a runtime of 160 minutes. If the report from the European website is accurate, then the upcoming installment will be the longest movie in the "Fast and Furious" franchise.
The most recent "Fast and Furious" movie clocked in just a little over two hours, while the sixth installment was shorter than that. If "The Fate of the Furious" really hits the 160-minute mark, then this will also be the longest film of its kind. As reported by Polygon, no major blockbuster film has ever reached this length. Even the Oscar-nominated "The Revenant" only lasted for 2.35 hours.
Universal Pictures has yet to confirm the news so fans should wait until more updates become available.
Meanwhile, the synopsis for "The Fate of the Furious" reads, "Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game — and the rest of the crew have been exonerated — the globe-trotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman seduces Dom into the world of crime he can't seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before."
"The Fate of the Furious" is set for release on April 14.
