'The Flash' Season 2 News, Spoilers: Teddy Sears On Why Zoom Took Caitlin
Tuesday's episode of "The Flash" ended with a big win for Zoom (Teddy Sears).
In "Versus Zoom," the man previously thought to be Jay Garrick (also Teddy Sears) got Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) to surrender his speed in order to save Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale), who Zoom had taken hostage.
But Zoom didn't leave with just the Flash's superspeed. On his way out, he also kidnapped Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker).
Being held prisoner by Zoom is only the latest in a series of unfortunate events in Caitlin's life. First, Team Flash's resident genius lost her fiancé, Ronnie Raymond (Robbie Amell), in the particle accelerator explosion in the S.T.A.R. Labs. He somehow returned, they got married, and then she lost him again when he sacrificed his life to save Central City.
Caitlin finally moved on with Jay, whom everyone thought was a hero until it was revealed that he was actually Zoom the whole time.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Sears explained that while Jay Garrick/Zoom/Hunter Zolomon had lied about a lot of things, the relationship between Caitlin and the villain wasn't merely a part of his evil plot.
"Yes, that was all real, which of course makes it very interesting when something like this happens that's not part of a plan," the actor said.
"She's not a trophy; she really is someone he believes that he loves and wants to have with him," he told Entertainment Weekly.
But this doesn't mean that Caitlin reciprocates his feelings. "After the reveal, she is repulsed by him. She wants nothing to do with him," the actor told EW. Sears also explained that Zolomon doesn't quite understand Caitlin's reaction to his revelation, saying, "He's a bit misguided, and he's very broken."
As for what's ahead for the "Flash" villain, Sears said, "I will say that Jay, or really Hunter Zolomon, is here on Earth-1 for a very specific reason, which will be revealed in this upcoming episode."
"The Flash" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
