'The Flash' Season 2 News, Update: Candice Patton Slams Rumors of Iris West Taking Over STAR Labs

Earlier this week, the news has been rife saying that Candice Patton's Iris West will be taking a "significant leadership role" when the second season of The CW's hit superhero drama TV series "The Flash" hits the airwaves. However, things might not be what fans are expecting.

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg earlier referred to Barry Allen's (Grant Gustin) on-and-off romantic interest as a natural "born leader" who would be responsible in getting the band "back together again."

This leads many viewers to believe that Iris would be taking the leadership role at the STAR Labs, a position which is currently vacant with the disappearance of Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh).

However, if it is the 27-year-old actress herself to be asked, the said speculations were really more of a misconception rather than a logical connection.

During the show's recently-held panel at Dragon Con, Patton said (via ComicBook.com) that having Iris as the leader of the brilliant group composed of Barry, Cisco (Carlos Valdes), and Caitlyn Snow (Danielle Panabaker) is all but a "gross exaggeration."

Iris will, however, play a very crucial part to band them all together, just like what Kreisberg has said with EW.

"What I will say is that she does encourage Barry Allen to come back to S.T.A.R. Labs and get the team together and keep fighting to protect Central City," she was quoted as saying (via CB).

But being the leader of the pack, "no, that doesn't happen." Apparently, Iris still has her job at Picture News and she will continue to be the "iconic reporter" she's known in the source materials.

"…this season we will see her step into that role which I am very excited about because I think she has a lot to offer Team Flash in that way," she went on to explain (via CB).

"The Flash" Season 2 kicks off Tuesday, October 6 at 8/7c on The CW.
