'The Gamechangers' first trailer released, movie plot revealed
The game "Grand Theft Auto V" has captured several hearts of gamers. What many don't know is the struggle it went through before it hit store shelves in 2013. To give fans a glimpse of the controversy that took place before the success of the world-famous and top-selling game, BBC Two came up with a made-for-TV movie titled "The Gamechangers."
A 30-second teaser trailer has just recently been launched allowing fans and viewers to take a peek into what the movie is all about. According to Inquisitr, "The Gamechangers" will follow the story of GTA co-creator Sam Houser, played by Daniel Radcliffe, who fights against a group of moral crusaders headed by Christian lawyer Jack Thompson, played by Bill Paxton.
GTA V sold over $1 billion worth of copies in just three days when it was released. But according to Slash Film, the "factual drama" will go back to 2002 which was the year when "two passionate men on either side of a high-stakes cultural divide clashed." Thompson saw the graphic and violent content of the GTA franchise and was worried of its possible effect and influence to children.
That is when he started a crusade against anyone and everyone that is part of the production, distribution, and sale of the GTA series. He filed multiple suits in multiple courts against GTA and even influenced other lawyers to do the same.
The TV movie will also tell the story of how Thompson appealed to the family of Devin Moore, the Alabama man who shot and killed three police officers in 2005. He went to court to show how the developers of GTA, Rockstar Games, along with console-makers, were partially accountable for the crime.
As said in the official synopsis of BBC, "This conflict, between the creative genius behind the game and a self-styled crusader for American morality, escalated into a fight for the hearts, minds and freedoms of an entire gaming generation."
"The Gamechangers" will premiere Sept. 15 on BBC Two at 9 PM local time. Schedule of airing in other regions has not been announced.
