'The Gardens Between' PS4 Release Date News: Challenging, Emotional Puzzle Adventure Out in Late 2018

The Voxel Agents announced the release of its latest puzzle adventure game "The Gardens Between" for the PlayStation 4 (PS4). Sony showcased parts of the gameplay at the Sony's Paris Games Week on Monday, which piqued the interest of players.

"The Gardens Between" will be out in stores around the third quarter of 2018 for PS4. The Voxel Agents announced back in February that the game will also be available for PC and Mac gamers next year.

The puzzle game features two main characters, Arina and Frendt, which the players can choose to control. The teenage characters have to work hand in hand and solve the puzzles in a strange looking garden islands.

Beyond the basic premise, time manipulations is a key to progressing successfully in "The Gardens Between." Gamers can either revert or push forward in time in order to correct or redo the puzzles. This aspect in the gameplay might be comparable to "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time," according to Gamespot.

In going forward or backward in time, however, gamers will also unfold the deeper connection between Arina and Frendt. Sony stated in its demo that "The Gardens Between" is a single-player narrative but every puzzle unlocks more of their actual story and some of the revelations might tug at the heart.

"Though the journey is an emotional one, our aim is to create a meditative experience that players will look forward to escaping into and relaxing with," The Voxel Agents co-founder Simon Joslin revealed.

The Voxel Agents' creative director Henrik Patterson shared that much of the inspiration for "The Gardens Between" came from the developers' childhood experiences.

"Experiences we felt were strong. Particularly around the age of our protagonists," he told Finder. "We tried to figure out, what is it about these moments that was important, what they looked like at the time."

The Voxel Agents is an Australian gaming company that also created the "Train Conductor" gaming app for the iPhone.
