'The Gifted' Season 1 Cast News: Polaris as Magneto's Daughter Confirmed?
Has an X-Men connection on FOX's "The Gifted" been confirmed in the spinoff series that will debut season 1 this October? Polaris/Lorna Dane (Emma Dumont) is apparently the daughter of the popular villain Magneto.
"The Gifted" showrunner Matt Nix hinted the connection via an interview with CBR. He said Polaris will have an awareness that she could be Magneto's daughter. There will, however, be more to her story in the TV show and this detail about her parentage won't be revealed right away on "The Gifted."
"As you know from the comics, it's a little murky," Nix said. "It's not like she's living at home with Magneto and eating cereal."
The comic book "Uncanny X-Men" issue no. 431 which came out in 2003, affirmed Polaris' links to Magneto, who both have the same superpowers. However, Magneto, who is played by Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen on the big screen, or any of the characters more popularly seen in the "X-Men" movies will not appear in "The Gifted."
Instead, the spinoff series will focus on two normal parents, Reed Strucker (Stephen Moyer) and Caitlin Strucker (Amy Acker), who will learn that their children have mutant superpowers. "The Gifted" will chart how their lives will change during a period when mutants are treated as outsiders.
Polaris will be one of those outsiders who will be shown as a prisoner in the first episode of "The Gifted." Dumont said that she was given a backstory about her character when she landed the role on the FOX show.
"The information that I've been given thus far is that there was a horrible accident when our Lorna was very young when both of her 'parents,' quote-unquote, died, similar to the comics," the actress revealed. "She grew up in foster care, and I think it is revealed that she doesn't know who her true biological father is."
"The Gifted" will premiere on FOX on Monday, Oct. 2 at 9:00 p.m. EST.
