'The Goldbergs' 100th Episode to Feature 'Star Wars' vs. 'Star Trek' Debate
The ABC family comedy "The Goldbergs" is hitting a milestone this season with its 100th episode. The show will tackle a "Star Wars" vs. "Star Trek" debate to celebrate this accomplishment.
"Back to the Future" actress Lea Thompson directed the 100th episode that will air on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Thompson first worked as director last season in the episode "Holy K.I.T.T.," which aired for Thanksgiving.
"The Goldbergs" 100th episode will center on Adam (Sean Giambrone) and his girlfriend Jackie's (Rowan Blanchard) first Halloween as a couple. They will have their first big fight as Jackie wants to go as a "Star Trek" character but Adam is an ultimate "Star Wars" geek.
"At its core, 'The Goldbergs' is about life as an obsessive movie geek in 1980-something," show creator Adam F. Goldberg said. "It's completely fitting that our 100th episode is about 'Star Wars' vs. 'Star Trek.'"
Meanwhile, two more episodes will air ahead of the 100th special on "The Goldbergs" season 5. On Oct. 11, pro-wrestler Bill Goldberg will guest star as Coach Nick, the brother of Coach Mellor (Bryan Callen). The other storyline will focus on Erica (Hayley Orrantia) and Geoff as they grapple with their long-distance relationship.
The episode on Oct. 18, on the other hand, will be a tribute to the '80s cult film "Revenge of the Nerds." Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey) will enroll in night school so she can become a businesswoman while Erica will enlist her brother Adam's help in her academics.
ABC renewed "The Goldbergs" for season 5 and 6 last May. The show is the second highest-rated comedy series on the network after "Modern Family."
"The Goldbergs" had a rough start when it debuted in 2013 but it eventually found its footing as one of ABC's endearing family show. Jeff Garlin (Murray), George Segal (Pops) and Patton Oswalt (narrator) are also part of the series.
"The Goldbergs" airs Wednesday nights at 8:00 p.m. EST on ABC.
