'The Good Doctor' Spoilers, News: Nov. 6 Airing Skipped; Shaun Handles Patient With Autism in Next Episode
"The Good Doctor" will not be on air on Monday, Nov. 6, to give way to an ABC special. The show, however, will be back the following week with an episode featuring a patient with autism.
The medical drama series goes on a brief hiatus this week as ABC plans on airing "Living Every Day: Luke Bryan" during its 10:00 p.m. time schedule. The special is a prelude to the annual Country Music Awards (CMA), which happens on Thursday, Nov. 9.
Instead, "The Good Doctor" season 1 episode 6 will air on Monday, Nov. 13. Freddie Highmore's character who has autism, Dr. Shaun Murphy, will be dealing with a patient under the spectrum as well.
Murphy will encounter prejudice because of his condition from an unlikely source. How will the doctor with extra-ordinary abilities handle this?
Highmore shared in in an interview with Gold Derby that he quickly fell in love with his new role following five seasons of playing a serial killer on "Bates Motel." He landed the part on "The Good Doctor" just days after filming wrapped up for his other show.
"He's not a stereotypical character," Highmore said of Murphy. The actor also shared that he learned more about playing the part of someone with autism from show creator David Shore and the experts and consultants they have on the set.
Highmore doesn't feel the pressure of playing a doctor with autism because of their help. He said, however, that it was important for the show to present an authentic character.
"David and I discussed from the very beginning that [Shaun] is never going to be able to represent all people with autism," Highmore added. "I think it is wonderful that he becomes his own person in his own right and moves past purely being labeled as a character with autism."
"The Good Doctor" has been receiving praises and ruling the ratings since its debut in September. ABC has a definite hit in their roster of new series with this show.
Catch "The Good Doctor" Mondays at 10:00 p.m. EST on ABC.
