'The Good Wife' Season 7: Can Alicia Forgive Eli for Deleting Will's Voicemail?

"The Good Wife" will come back this January to reveal the consequences of Eli's revelation to Alicia during the winter finale.

In the previous episode, Eli Gold (Alan Cumming) confessed to Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) that he was the one who erased a crucial voicemail message from Will Gardner. The situation is bound to get more awkward when "The Good Wife" returns next month as Eli will be joining Peter (Chris Noth) and Alicia in their preparation for the Iowa Caucuses, according to Carter Matt.

Eli decided to tell Alicia the truth about what he did in season 1 because his conscience has been badgering him nonstop. In the deleted voicemail, Will Gardner (Josh Charles) had declared her love for Alicia and said he wanted to be with her no matter what the consequence. At that time, Eli thought the message would have a negative effect on Peter's career, so he deleted it, Christian Today reports.

Alicia now hates him for what he did, and Peter has no idea what is going on. What makes the situation more tense is the fact that they all have to put up a public façade for the campaign, the report details.

The next half of season 7 will focus on the consequences of Eli's revelation and his strained ties with Alicia. Fans still have to wait until the return of the series to find out if she will be able to forgive him for what he did or not.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "The Good Wife" producers Robert and Michelle King gave fans a sneak peek into the continuation of the season. They revealed that Eli had revealed the secret because Courtney's (Vanessa Williams) departure affected him, but the most important reason is that he wants Alicia to finally find her happiness, the report relays.

"The Good Wife" season 7 is set to return on Jan. 10 on CBS.
