'The Jungle Book'Movie News: Disney Scores Another Hit in the Movie, Announces Its Sequel and That of 'Maleficent's'
With Walt Disney scoring another hit via its latest movie release "The Jungle Book," its announcement that the current blockbuster will have a sequel is not really a surprise.
According to Coming Soon, "Jungle Book 2" will still be helmed by Jon Favreau, whose directing skills have left many viewers in awe via the still-showing "Jungle Book." The sequel will run along the script to be penned by Justin Marks.
As of this writing, "Jungle Book" has already raked in a surprising $533,513,247 as its worldwide gross, $192,213,247 of which comes from the Northern American theaters. On its second week of run in the theaters, the movie just experienced a 41 percent drop.

As it entered its second week, "Jungle Book" battled with the just-released "The Huntsman: Winter's War" starring Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt, and Jessica Chastain. However, despite a stellar cast, the movie failed to topple the Disney movie as it only earned an estimated $20.1 million over the weekend in American theaters and a total of $100.3 million for its global gross.
Meanwhile, apart from a "Jungle Book" sequel, Disney has also announced that it will be producing to the 2013 Angelina Jolie starrer, "Maleficent 2," which will follow a story based on a script to be penned by Linda Woolverton.
The current lineup of Disney movies that fans can look forward to are "Alice through the Looking Glass," which hits the theaters on May 27; "Pete's Dragon," which arrives on August 12; and the live-action feature of the "Beauty and the Beast" on March 17, 2017.
Apart from the said titles, Disney has also a few untitled live-action fairy tales, one of which is slated for a July 28, 2017 release. For 2018, the studio has reserved three showing dates for another set of untitled live-action fairy tales, which are scheduled to arrive in the theaters on April 6, August 3, and December 25 on that year. It has also booked another live-action fairy tale for a December 20, 2019 showing date.
