'The King of Fighters XIV' to be released in 2016 for PlayStation 4
Fans and gamers who were able to attend Sony's Tokyo Game Show press conference this year gained nothing but great news and announcements about their favorite games. Among the announcements was the latest installment of the fighting game series "The King of Fighters." According to Tech Times, Japanese video game developer SNK Playmore announced that "The King of Fighters XIV" will be released in 2016 for PlayStation 4.
After 21 years of making and continuing the fighting game franchise, the game has some new and improved changes beginning with its visuals which is reported to be of high-quality this time around. Digital Trends noted that the game will shift to 3D for its latest sequel, although, it has been said that it will still stay true to its 2D gameplay origins.
"This brand-new KOF numbered series title features high-quality 3D visuals, however staying true to the gameplay roots of the series," SNK Playmore said via Gamespot.
This will not be the first time though that KOF's developer used 3D quality visuals. In the 2004 spinoff game "The King of Fighters: Maximum Impact," SNK featured some 3D graphics and it was released for Taito Type X and PS2. But it then shifted back to a traditional 2D presentation for the 2009 game and its 2011 follow-up.
Along with the reveal of the release schedule was a trailer introducing the fourteenth installment. It showed how the game debuted way back in 1994 and years after, SNK is at it again. Game characters Iori Yagami and Kyo Kusunagi also graced the trailer having a face-off. Shack News noted that these two characters are most likely confirmed to be part of the character roster.
Tech Times claimed that KOF IV will ship in Japan on Jan. 21, 2016. No details have been disclosed yet regarding the release of other platforms but basing on its previous entry, the game will most likely be open to others soon.
