'The Last Man on Earth' Season 2 Recap: Phil and Carol Set off on a Road Trip

The comedy television series "The Last Man on Earth" is back for its second season and it has kicked off an episode that seemingly went back to the basics—just Phil Miller alone in the world. Well, he wasn't alone until he made an unconscious mistake.

According to Flavor Wire, the first episode titled "Is Anybody Out There" premiered last Sunday, Sept. 27, and it started off with Phil packing up for a road trip. He was not exactly leaving to go on vacation but he was leaving because the community of plague survivors he'd founded in Tucson, Arizona has exiled him. As he was about to go already, Carol, on the last minute, decided to join him. So together, they embark on a cross-country road trip in search of a new home.

They treated the world like a big playground where they did whatever they wanted to do. They shopped for tequila, soaked in a margarita kiddie pool, drove an airplane around and made busts of famous men kiss each other.

They also made a stop at the White House where Phil held a "press conference" with his sport ball friends as his guests. But all fun and games came to an end when drama started to kick in. Although the couple have spent a lot of time moving from mansion to mansion, it just wasn't working well for Carol. Phil even took her to her old family home in Delaware but Carol misses something more—the company of their Tucson crew.

But of course, typical Phil refused to return especially after having been told to never go back to the Tucson community, which lead to a disagreement between the couple. While Carol was sleeping in the back of the RV, Phil stopped at a gas station to refuel. But Carol woke up and goes inside the gas station without Phil noticing. That's when he accidentally left Carol, which he only realized after driving for several hours.

He drove back to look for her but she was nowhere to be found. He then went back to Tucson thinking that she might be there but he was in for a surprise. Upon arriving, he found out that the place has been abandoned.

"The Last Man on Earth" Season 2 Episode 2 will return on Sunday, Oct. 4 on FOX.
