'The Last of Us 2' release date still uncertain, but Naughty Dog accidentally confirms sequel
One of Naughty Dog's writers may have accidentally confirmed the development of "The Last of Us 2," despite the company itself remaining largely mum about the second installation of the game.
Naughty Dog game writer Josh Scherr was talking about his colleague Eric Baldwin who is responsible for facial animations in games, but he accidentally hinted that a sequel for The Last of Us is being developed. He could have been simply mentioning the game title, but his subsequent reaction was a dead giveaway for The Last of Us 2, according to Movie News Guide (MNG).
The slip up happened during a live stream of the game "Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection," which was done by the company's community strategist Eric Monacelli, Latinos Post reports.
In a video uploaded by user Jeronimo PW, Scherr was referring to Baldwin as the facial animator of the Uncharted series and other games when he mentioned the words "first The Last of Us." This could suggest that there is a second The Last of Us, the report explains.
Catching himself in the middle of his verbal slip, Scherr pretended that he did not say anything important, but it seemed too late for cover-ups.
"Uh, did I say the first The Last of Us?," MNG quotes Scherr. "The first the Last of Us. Uh, The Last of Us, the first The Last of Us."
Baldwin laughed at Scherr's accidental revelation about the development of The Last of Us 2.
After the incident, fans and media firms took Scherr's line as a clue that Naughty Dog, Inc. is indeed working on the most awaited sequel. If it proves to be true, gamers might still need to wait longer because the developer still has to release "Unchartered 4" on March 2016, the report details.
Naughty Dog still has not confirmed the development of The Last of Us 2, and the firm has said the game still has no final release date, if the development pushes through. But fans are hoping that the sequel will finally become a reality.
