'The Last Ship' Season 5 Updates: Will This Be the Last for the TNT Series?
Fans of Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) and his crew at the USS Nathan James may be saying goodbye to them after the upcoming season of "The Last Ship."
Speculations are rife that the new installment will be the last for the TNT series. In September, even the network felt that season 5 would be the series finale. According to a statement released, there was no discussion with regards to another offering after TNT made a double renewal. The upcoming storyline was also written as if it would be the last.
"We shot two seasons simultaneously, the fourth is currently on the air and the fifth will return next summer. We greenlit the fifth with the idea that it could be the final season, however, it's far too early to make that determination," TNT's statement reads.
If season 5 will be the conclusion of Chandler's journey, the fans are expecting at least a happy ending for him and his friends. Although the trailer for the upcoming premiere shows another huge threat that the Navy will face, it is predicted that the heroes will emerge victorious once again. The world has already triumphed over the debilitating effect of the Red Rust. The road to recovery is definitely within arm's length.
As for Chandler's personal life, it is possible that he will end up marrying Sasha (Bridget Regan). Spoilers indicate that he is finally ready to move on from his wife, Darien (Tracy Middendorf), who died due to the Red Flu in the first season. His children, Sam (Aidan Sussman) and Ashley (Grace Kaufman), deserve to feel the love of a mother, after all.
Chandler and Sasha's relationship has not been easy. They had to deal with a lot of setbacks, especially when the captain felt the need to take some time off from the Navy to find himself and reflect on his choices in life. Still, they have always known that they could rely on each other. Even before they became lovers, they were friends.
"The Last Ship" season 5 is expected to air next year on TNT.
