The season will see them in a small town full of religious followers. His new neighbors consist of John, played by Kevin Carrol, and Erika, played by Regina King, Michael, played by Jovan Adepo, and Yvette, played by Jasmin Savoy Brown. The Murphys are expected to have many secrets underneath their appearance of a perfect family.

The synopsis for the premiere episode reads, more than three years ago, 2 percent of the world's population vanished without explanation. However, the small town in Texas was the only one spared from the disappearance. This will create an interesting dynamic in the upcoming season.

Theroux recently shared that the upcoming season will be different compared to the previous. He stated, "I think it will be very different. Of course, it's still Damon (creator Damon Lindelof), so it's still going to be charging hard at the core of a lot of psychological drama and angst. Just because they go somewhere else geographically doesn't mean, necessarily, that things get better, but they do change in a really interesting way. It's exciting. It's the same thing as last year, where every script, you're like, 'Wow. This is really taking a turn, for better or worse.'"

"The Leftovers" will return with its second season this fall.
