'The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild' News: Nintendo Explains Idea Behind Expansion Pass
Nintendo is still hard at work on the downloadable content (DLC) coming to its highly anticipated game, "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild."
In IGN's Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, the company's senior product marketing manager, Bill Trinen, spoke about the game's post-launch support and explained their decision to offer an expansion pass.
Trinen explained that the team who worked on "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" felt that it would be "a waste to just make one game and have that be it."
"We want people to be able to enjoy exploring this world," he explained, saying that this was the foundation of how they came up with the DLC for "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild."
"And you can see that in the fact that it's not ... the DLC is not launching the day after the game or the week after. It's coming out several months later in the form of the first pack and then several months after that in the form of the second pack. And that's because the content is in development," Trinen said.
The Nintendo executive compared their approach in the "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" DLC is similar to that of "Mario Kart."
Trinen explained that the team simply wants to give players the option to get the game at a store and "give them something to look forward to, and kind of let them know there's more to come in this world."
He believes that for the hardcore "The Legend of Zelda" fans, it will be an exciting idea that they can return to the world with new stuff to look forward to via the DLC.
Nintendo recently announced "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" expansion pass, which includes the first two DLCs set for release in the game.
Players won't be able to purchase the DLCs individually so they will have to purchase the expansion pass even if they just want the other.
"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" will be released on March 3 along with the Nintendo Switch. A Wii U version is coming on the same day.
