'The Mentalist' Season 7 Spoilers: New Character Coming to Drama Next Season

"The Mentalist" will not return to CBS until later this year, but fans can already expect to see a new face added to season seven.

The brand new season will introduce another series regular, according to spoilers released online this week. "The Mentalist" showrunners are casting a new woman in Jane's life named Michelle Vega. The new character is a rookie FBI agent is who is a student of combat and weaponry and is unfazed by high-pressure situations, according to TVLine.

Furthermore, Vega becomes involved in Jane's "professional" life, but little is known how the new female character will affect his personal life. Vega is introduced just as Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and Jane (Simon Baker) were on the brink of discovering a new side to their relationship in season six.

Ahead of the season six finale, Lisbon grew increasingly close to a new love interest in Agent Pike, while Jane grew increasingly jealous. As promised, the finale delivered a "romantic moment" between Lisbon and Jane, but little is known about how the characters' relationship continues. Fortunately, before "The Mentalist" season finale aired, executive producer Bruno Heller promised fans that "a new side of the relationship between Jane Lisbon" would be revealed, and it is expected to develop even further in season seven.

"That's an arc we're going to be watching develop through the back end of this season," the EP told Entertainment Weekly back in December. "Now that Red John is gone, both Jane and Lisbon are sort of physically free to wake up and look around and what they see when they wake up from that nightmare is each other. And how that relationship develops and how they sort of start working out who they are to each other is a big part of how the rest of this season unfolds."

Meanwhile, CBS just released their fall schedule, and "The Mentalist" was not a part of it. The dramatic television series is expected to resume closer to 2015.
