'The Mist' TV Series News, Update: Spike Announced 10-Epsiode Series Order of Stephen King's Work

After the successes of "Haven (in Syfy)," "Under the Dome (CBS)," and "11/22/63 (Hulu)," yet another story written by the "master of horror," Stephen King, is now headed towards the small screen. This time around, it would be his 1980 novella titled "The Mist," which avid readers of King would have known to be a part in the 1985 anthology, "Skeleton Crew."

The aforementioned title will be brought to television by Spike, which announced on Tuesday that it has already given a 10-episode series order, as reported by TVLine.

The network had previously ordered a pilot on "The Mist" back in February, but decided to make a full series order.

As further detailed by the media outlet, filming for the upcoming project will begin this summer, in time for a 2017 premiere release date.

For the uninitiated, "The Mist" tells the story of a small town in Maine which is suddenly engulfed with mist. The unnatural phenomenon creates immense havoc on the lives of a handful of people who decided to take shelter in a grocery store. The fog itself conceals otherworldly creatures which prey on hapless individuals who venture out into the open.

Frank Darabont, a frequent King collaborator, made a theatrical adaptation of the work and was titled by the same name in 2007. It starred Thomas Jane as David Drayton, Marcia Gay Harden as Mrs. Carmody, and Laurie Holden as Amanda Dumfries, just to mention a few.

The film garnered positive reviews from critics mostly for its success in portraying the true essence of horror and terror. Viewers, mostly fans of the original work, were quite displeased with Darabont's altered ending of the movie, however.

TWC-Dimension will spearhead the production of the series with Christian Torpe tied to executive produce. Being on its early stage, Spike is yet to announce the names of cast members as well as the plot details of the show.

Stay tuned for more updates.
