'The Mysteries of Laura' season 2 spoilers: Gabriel Mann to guest star
The series "The Mysteries of Laura" finished on a positive note as Laura (Debra Messing) and the team finally found the person who shot Jake (Josh Lucas) in the preceding episode. Meanwhile, Meredith (Janina Gavankar) finally admitted her feelings to Billy (Laz Alonzo), and Laura suddenly found herself in a love triangle.
The upcoming season will introduce a new character. Actress Callie Thorne will play the new boss of the precinct, Captain Nancy Santiani, a youthful and petite woman who runs a tight ship and not buys any crap from Laura who gives plenty of it. She is not so fondly referred to as Santini by Laura. The two very tenacious women who constantly clash will somehow find common ground and learn to understand each other, despite the fact that they can't stand to be in the same room.
Actor Gabriel Mann from "Revenge" will guest star on the show in the new season. Unfortunately, there is no information on what his role is, but he did announce the news through a post on Twitter. "BIG thx @DebraMessing @Janina @JoshLucas for being such gracious hosts. Handcuffs + humor = winning combo @NBCLaura," he wrote.
The series was renewed for a second season and has added a new co-executive producer to its lineup. Michael Smith, a "Law and Order" alum, who will also provide both producer and director services to the show. The series creator Jeff Rake will continue to be the executive producer for the coming season with Greg Berlanti, Aaron Kaplan, Sarah Schechter, McG, and Todd Lituchy. The show is the only freshman series to be renewed by the network.
Actress Debra Messing spoke about the next season. "I know that everybody is very excited about making the homicide cases as smart and surprising as possible. You know much like Sherlock — the TV show Sherlock — we want to keep them as sophisticated as possible. And then of course fine the light moments that have to come when her private life sort of interjects itself. I think you're going to see more of Jake and Laura spending more time together. But besides that it's going to be the show that our fans have come to really love and be entertained by. It's just making it a little bit sharper," she said.
The Mysteries of Laura will return on Sep. 23, Wednesday, at 8 p.m. on NBC.
