'The Night Of' Season 1 Updates: Episode 8 Recap "The Call of the Wild"— Satisfying Ending But Left Fans Hanging; Will There Be A Season 2?

"The Night Of" ends Season 1 with a climatic courtroom drama; fans waiting for Season 2. Some actors deserve an Emmy nomination.

"The Night Of" Season 1 Episode 8 'The Call of the Wild' gave viewers a lot of drama and suspense as the saga of cleaning Nasir Khan's (Riz Ahmed) name continued. From the time "The Night Of" premiered on HBO, high expectations of fans were met, as Khan moved from prison system drama to courtroom action.

'The Call of the Wild' recap

This week, John (John Turturro) and Chandra (Amara Karan) did all they could to support Naz's case in court. The pair even dragged in a few suspects such as Mr. Day, Don Taylor (Paul Sparks), and Duane Reade. These three were brought to court, which showed the negligence of the police to investigate these potential suspects. Each of these people supported Naz's innocence. However, each time Weiss (Jeannie Berlin) refused to cross-examine.

Chandra called Naz a witness. Viewers and fans of the series saw this as the high point of "The Night Of". Weiss immediately preyed upon Naz; she dismissed the idea that the man was innocent and simply made a few bad choices. She further questioned Naz about his refusal to dial 911 for help, considering there was a dead body in front of him. And if Andrea (Sofia Black-D'Elia) was not quite dead yet, his actions could bring the worst to her situation as well.

The intriguing kiss between Naz and Chandra leaked and doomed the outcome of the trial. However, Judge Roth (Glenn Fleshler) did not want his court to be affected and dismissed this leak.

The verdict

For fans, the ending was unexpectedly conclusive. Naz won his freedom, not by declaration of his innocence to the crime, but because of a split jury. The killer was Ray Halle (Paulo Costanzo) and he was simply there all along.

Although Halle's conviction or confession to the crime was not seen, viewers simply had to be contented with the outcome. There is still discontentment as well, with a possibility that Naz may have killed Andrea after all.

Season 2 still unsure

"The Night Of' ends its first season". There were originally nine episodes planned for Season 1. But because of an unaired 2013 plot, viewers were only able to see eight episodes in total. It is still too early to presume there would be a Season 2 to this crime series, but fans hope that HBO would consider a sequel.

And aside from thrilling viewers 90 minutes per episode, fans are also speculating Emmy nominations for "The Night Of" next year. According to a review, 'The Call of the Wild' alone showed multiple actors with Emmy-award winning potential.
