'The Notebook' TV Series News: Popular Novel-Film Adaptation Coming to TV

"The Notebook" is about to get a TV adaptation of its own. The 2004 movie, which is based on a 1996 novel by the same title by Nicholas Sparks, is currently being developed into a TV series at The CW network, according to reports.

"The Notebook" was a romantic drama movie that starred Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, who played Noah and Allie respectively. The pair lived in North Carolina during the late 1940s. The romance film followed their hardships as they tried to have a romantic relationship despite the fact that they are worlds apart. Noah is a simple country boy, while Allie is a young heiress.

According to Entertainment Weekly, although still in development, the series already has an official: "This series will follow the romantic journey of the two beloved central characters Noah and Allie, at the outset of their blossoming relationship as they build their lives and their future together against the backdrop of the racial politics, economic inequities, and social mores of post-World War II of the late 1940s in North Carolina."

Author Nicholas Sparks is directly involved in the project, under Nicholas Sparks Production, in association with Warner Bros. Television. Sparks will serve as executive producer together with Theresa Park. Todd Graff will be writer and producer.

The TV series will feature the young Noah and Allie rather than the older couple. Network president Mark Pedowitz said during the TCA press tour: "I don't believe we're going to see the older couple—what they become. But things change [in development]. I'm thrilled Nick Sparks wanted to do it at The CW."

The 2004 film was considered a sleeper hit – it had the fourth highest opening weekend sales in the box office. It is also ranked no. 14 among the highest-grossing romantic drama films of all time.
